About Paco Santiago --Introduction--

Dear friends:

My name is Paco Santiago. I was born in 1951 in a small town in the Alpujarra in Granada of only 120 inhabitants called Notaez. Although I was fortunate to study natural sciences, the frustration of my life was not having an adequate musical education. I did not study music in my youth because in those days was studied only in order to be "a useful man," and that of music was to pass the time.

When I started working as a professor of physics and chemistry, I was not accepted by the conservatory to study music because I was an adult, and had priority children and youth. So I had no choice but to learn for myself, and being self-taught as I believe are most of the musicians who were born in my time.

Anyway I've composed music without applying rules or criteria but rather reflect what I "felt" was guided by intuition rather than by cool reasoning and mathematical rules of harmony, which incidentally can exist only for transgressing them.So my music is made and arranged with the view that the final product would have to like me more than anyone. But for this reason I have never made money because I have always written the music guided by feeling, without thinking never about money or fame.So sometimes I have had offers to compose music, which is not to my liking, (I think it's noise), and could have got some money, but frankly I preferred to sacrifice these dividends because I think that music should not be prostituted by "That is the fashion" or "it's the trend".Today, unfortunately, the composer is "mentally castrated, because often only works composing music that is ordered by the record companies, and what marketing calls.

So musicians who have decided that music is feeling, and that no time or place or barriers imposed by current or fashion, we find that our music is only heard by four friends. Thank God there is Internet, which we will to allow all those composers who have refused to do commercial music that their work can be heard by others who seek in the music sense, beauty and value these qualities more than the brilliant orchestral arrangement and sounds spectacular but then are unable to transmit anything.
